Mail Room Service Center, a mail processing bureau which services mid–Michigan, has recently implemented EZ-Flats from Engineering Innovation with optical character recognition (OCR) software from Parascript.
Mail Room Service Center currently processes about 20 million pieces of mail yearly. They selected EZ-Flats, incorporating Parascript AddressScript CM as a single OCR engine.

Until now, the Center had to manually process the mail and could not earn postal discounts. With the mail processing solution, Mail Room Service Center can obtain the discounts and receive a return on their investment in one month. “EZ-Flats transport with Parascript’s OCR engine is the ideal solution for obtaining greater postage discounts and efficiency in processing flat size mail at our Saginaw, Michigan facility,” said Richard J. Blazejewski, owner of Mail Room Service Center. “With discounts on First Class Flats now as high as 50 cents, we can earn more on a weekly run of 5,000 mixed-weights flats than on 50,000 letters. The EZ-Flats OCR Essential system by Engineering Innovation, which incorporates Parascript AddressScript CM, achieves address recognition rates of 95 percent on both machine print as well as handwritten addresses.
