ABBYY will demonstrate its mobile application FotoTranslate at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain on February 16-19 this year. ABBYY FotoTranslate combines ABBYY’s optical character recognition technology with mobile dictionary software.

The program recognizes photographed words, looks them up in the database and displays their translation on the phone screen. This allows users to translate words without having to type them manually, without a need to use a separate dictionary, and even if they are not connected to the Internet. This makes FotoTranslate convenient for travels or when users need to translate words with unusual characters. The OCR technology used in the application can correct distortions of photos or text, thus making the images appropriate for recognizing text.
“ABBYY FotoTranslate technology is designed for “mobile” people who travel abroad and need to quickly understand important information written in a foreign language – a sign on a building or dish ingredients in a restaurant menu,” ¬said Katya Solntseva, director of mobile products department at ABBYY. “In this application, we for the first time combined together two of ABBYY’s key development focuses – text recognition technologies and dictionary software.”
To get more information about the program, visit ABBYY Stand at GSMA, February 16-19.
