Accusoft Pegasus has made an update to the PICTools software development kits which provide C libraries for image editing, compression, and decompression. The product is available on the Solaris x86 platform and is suitable for either 32-bit or 64-bit application development. The PICTools software development kits are optimized for a wide variety ot operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Solaris SPARC, and IBM AIX. There are also new features for JPEG 2000, included in the latest release. There is a speedup to the multi-core compression and decompression for lossless and high quality lossy images. The results of the speed tests report a 10 to 30% increase in JPEG 2000 multi-core compression and decompression. Another feature is the improved support for gigapixel JPEG 2000 images and metadata support for JPEG 2000 compression and decompression operations. PICTools Medical can decompress non-standard JPEG-LS (JLS) images, for example such that are created using the Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) libraries. The Gamma correction code in the Camera RAW libraries have been updated, and has been improved in the PICTools Photo software development kit. There is also improved IPTC metadata support for many formats, such as TIFF, JPEG, and JPEG 2000. PICTools Document SDK also features new grayscale and color document image cleanup improvements, such as automatic binarization, automatic color detection, color drop, and others. Additional information on Accusoft Pegasus imaging SDKs can be found at www.accusoft.com.
