ABBYY has announced ABBYY FineReader Engine 10 for Windows, the latest version of the company’s software development kit (SDK) for document recognition.
FineReader Engine 10 recognizes text in different European languages with great improvements in the recognition speed in comparison to the previous version. Asian languages are recognized with accuracy increase of up to a 40 percent. The SDK also features enhanced image processing capabilities, as well as improved document formatting and layout reconstruction. “The true challenge is not just to speed up OCR processing but, at the same time, to keep up the highest level of accuracy customers expect from OCR technology,” said Andrey Isaev, director of technology products department at ABBYY. “FineReader Engine 10 represents an ideal balance between those two basic criteria.”
The FineReader Engine SDK enables developers to integrate different recognition technologies into their own applications. The ABBYY platform offers OCR (optical character recognition), ICR (intelligent character recognition), barcode recognition, and PDF conversion. FineReader Engine covers 198 languages for OCR and 113 languages for ICR.
The new features in ABBYY FineReader Engine 10 include improved OCR accuracy for Asian languages, up to 92 percent faster recognition for European languages, enhanced document page layout reconstruction, improved PDF export as well as a new API for simpler development which features pre-defined profiles for popular recognition tasks.
