Mobile OCR Engine 4.0, the new version of the software development kit for creating small footprint OCR applications, is now available. The major improvement of the SDK is that it supports Chinese, Japanese, and Korean OCR by ABBYY.
The SDK covers 62 recognition languages, both European and Asian, as well as multiple operating systems including Symbian, iPhone, Mac OS, Android, Linux, Mobile Linux (Moblin), Windows, and Windows Mobile. The ABBYY Mobile OCR Engine SDK allows developers of mobile and small footprint applications to integrate OCR technologies which convert photographs and images into editable and searchable text. The mobile applications based on OCR enable users to transform photographed documents, notes, business cards, timetables, and other text captured with a built-in camera into data for easily storing, sharing or exporting into other applications. “Mobile often means global — successful mobile products, both hardware and software, become popular worldwide very quickly. To enter new local markets or expand their offering with versions supporting new platforms and devices, developers will need a versatile and flexible technology”, said Katya Solntseva, Director of Mobile Products Department at ABBYY. “The ABBYY SDK is a truly multilingual and multi-platform toolkit providing not only quality OCR but the possibility for easy growth and expansion using the same, proven technology from the same provider.” The enhanced version of the Mobile OCR Engine software development kit includes improvements to the recognition processes in order to give developers more control over the recognition results and to provide higher accuracy. The SDK includes an image pre-processing option which detects the page orientation as well as a confidence level indicator that shows the certainty level for the recognized text to allow developers to adjust the verification and proofreading functions.
