TOPIC: Is it OCR, or something else?

Is it OCR, or something else? 1 Year, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
Whenever I use my credit card to buy something, I always find I'm asked to write out my signature with onto a touchscreen, assumedly to verify it.

But here's the thing: I've got several friends who use their husband's credit cards from time to time, and yet when they sign, nothing seems to be amiss. It doesn't matter if they try and copy their S/Os signatures or even write their own, no-one ever challenges them.

So...are these touchpads some form of OCR or ICR? What do they actually accomplish?

I don't think that's OCR technology, there, especially since it's dealing in signatures. Most signatures are as different from standard letter shapes that they'd be more like pictures to a computer.

Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.

I also don't think that there is an OCR software used in those machines. I think that it is only for the record of the store and the credit card company. My signature is not identical because sometimes my hands are shaking when I sign.

Hello,
OCR handwriting recognition is a task that is complicated. It is mainly because OCR can recognize only disjoint text and handwritten text may be written in joint or cursive writing. While writing, symbols and numerals may be used and OCR cannot detect them and may misinterpret them to be something else, thereby making it difficult for OCR handwriting recognition. Ink with which the text is written should also be very thick so that the OCR engine can scan the handwritten text easily.
Thank you.
