Is it good to have a scanner that will be dedicated for OCR use only? I think that regularly adjusting the settings of the scanner will lessen its copying quality. But using it only for OCR purposes won't need much adjustment on the settings so it would have the same quality every time it copies something.

I don't see how altering a machine's settings will permanently affect its performance unless you're going to physically open it up and play around with the inner workings. Most computer accessories are designed so that their settings can be changed easily and quickly without any loss of efficiency, so why would you want a scanner for just one purpose?

Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.

There is nothing wrong with using a scanner solely for providing the OCR software image files to convert to editable documents, provided that you can afford it. I just don't see the importance of doing that.

As long as you can afford it I see no issue in having a scanner to be used in dedicated fashion particulalry if you have some unique settings on it that you'd like to remain constant.

I have decided to dedicate a scanner for this. After doing some research I am finding some specialty made OCR scanners that might make my life a whole lot easier.

As far as a scanner goes I think the most important thing is that it has 600dpi or more. If it has 600dpi then it is going to be a good scanner for OCR software.
