ABBYY USA has announced the release of FineReader 9.0 Express Edition. FineReader Express is an optical character recognition product developed for the consumer market, which converts paper documents to digital files.
The solution features task automations as well as an intuitive user interface, and does not require any typing or additional program settings. FineReader 9.0 is fully integrated with Microsoft Office 2007, 2003, XP and 2000 and allows users to convert paper documents into searchable and editable files in MS Word, Excel and Outlook by simply clicking an icon within the programs. “Consumers, many of whom work from home full or part-time, are looking for digital solutions to get organized, save valuable time and reduce the paper clutter in their lives,” said Carmela Wong, vice president of marketing at ABBYY USA. “With ABBYY FineReader Express, consumers now have access to the same award-winning document recognition and OCR technology leveraged by a variety of leading enterprises, allowing them to digitize paper documents, save valuable storage space, and significantly reduce the time spent manually retyping and searching for documents - with the added benefit of going green.” FineReader 9.0 Express Edition supports Windows Vista and can output files in various formats such as RTF, XLS, PDF, HTML, TXT, BMP, JPEG, TIF/TIFF and PNG. The product recognizes 179 languages with automatic language detection, thus enabling users to easily convert multi-lingual documents. The original layout and formatting of the documents are preserved to provide users with a formatted, editable file which looks like the original document. FineReader Express has digital camera OCR capabilities, providing precision pre-processing controls, curved text handling, as well as automatic image resolution correction for better image conversion results. It also includes the ABBYY Screenshot Reader which enables users to convert screenshots into editable or image files. The converted screenshots can be saved as a file, sent to MS Word, Excel or clipboard, or shared via email as attachments.
