Nuance Communications has announced Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11, which is the latest release of the company’s speech recognition software. Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 offers improved accuracy and performance, allowing users to perform tasks on the computer using speech as well as interact with multiple applications.
Dragon allows common tasks on the PC to be performed using direct voice commands. These include sending emails and scheduling meetings, searching the Web, searching the user’s desktop, or navigating between Windows.
The new release of Dragon features a new interface which makes it easier to communicate commands: a new Dragon Sidebar which remembers commands and provides users with tips; an improved Help system; an updated toolbar enabling users to access important Dragon features.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 also makes it easy to edit and correct text. The application features voice formatting commands, such as “Bold” or “Capitalize”. Additionally, it can be used to transcribe recorded audio – users dictate into a digital voice recorder, and Dragon do the does a transcription of the recorded voice.
“Since Dragon first debuted over 13 years ago, it has truly transformed from a novelty to a necessity for millions of people,” said Peter Mahoney, senior vice president and general manager, Dragon, Nuance. “Speech has proven itself – on the desktop, on mobile devices, and even in cars – to be a more natural interface, allowing people to simply speak to keep up with their ideas, their communications, and their work. Our goal with Dragon 11 was to make the software not only as accurate as possible, but almost transparent, empowering people to focus on simply letting their ideas flow, straight from their brain to the page.”
