ColumbiaSoft has announced the availability of a new version of its document management system, Document Locator 6.1. The latest release delivers performance improvements, in addition to a brand new PDF technology for archiving documents.
Version 6.1 optimizes core file actions such as check-in/check-out, copy-and-paste, update profile, get latest version, and more. These functions have been enhanced for improved performance in virtual private networks (VPN) and wide area networks (WAN). This improves performance when using the system’s Web browser interface. Benchmark testing indicates an average improvement of 37% in speed across certain operations.
“Document Locator version 6.1 is one more innovation in what has proven to be an enduring platform for our customers’ document management needs,” said ColumbiaSoft executive vice president, David Pogue. “With Windows 8 around the corner, and the widespread adoption of mobile computing, we’re as excited about the future as we are thrilled to see this incremental release and the enhancements it offers our customers right now.”
The new PDF technology enables users to create PDF/A format files. This is the ISO-standard version of the PDF format. The new PDF technology is more easily deployed in virtual server environments such as Citrix or Windows Terminal Services.
