ABBYY FineReader enables users to convert scanned images, photos and PDFs into Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and other editable formats.

The software is also able to retain the layout of the original document. This eliminates the need to retype or reformat it.

Click the Save tab, and then click RTF/DOC/DOCX. This will open a range of settings that can be adjusted according to individual needs. After selecting the options, click OK.

Retain Layout
These are the advanced options for preserving the layout of your documents in the final Microsoft Word file:
Exact copy. Your document will look exactly like the original. This option is good for complex layouts but it will limit the modification of text and formatting in the final document.
Editable copy. The document will preserve most of the formatting and text flow, and at the same time you can edit it more easily.
Formatted text. This option will preserve the fonts, the font sizes, as well as the paragraphs, but not the exact object positions or the spacing. The text in the output document will be left-aligned.
Plain text. This option will not retain any formatting.

Default paper size
The Default paper size options enable you to set the size of the output paper. You can select the Automatic option to let FineReader choose the most appropriate paper size automatically. Alternatively, you may select the Increase paper size in order to fit content option so you can make sure that the recognized text will fit the paper size.

Text settings
You can use the following options to retain the attributes of the formatting elements:
Keep headers and footers. This option preserves the running titles in the output text.
Keep page breaks. This will retain the arrangement of the original page.
Keep line breaks. Keeps the original arrangement into lines.
Retain text and background colors. This option retains the original letter color.

Picture settings
These options will allow you to reduce the size of the Word file and at the same time will keep the pictures from the original document.

Advanced saving options
Highlight uncertain characters. You can select this option in order to edit the recognized text in Microsoft Word instead of ABBYY FineReader.
Enable compatibility with other word processors. This option will result in a document which you can open and edit in earlier versions of MS Word or other word processing programs supporting RTF format.
